Class Rules

Dear students, I am writing this letter to welcome you one more year in Ferran Tallada. I’m very happy to have you as students again and I am excited about the new things you will learn this course.        I have to tell you that my holidays have been very nice. I went to the beach were I snorkeled and I visited different towns, I also walked on the mountains and even saw a volcano.         However, holidays are finished and now it is time to work again. We are all full of energy now and ready to teach and learn many things. I need to know everything about your summer, what did you do? Where did you go?... everything. Please answer the letter telling me many things. Sincerely yours Ingrid.

ENGLISH CLASS RULES

We are in a group and we have to learn individually but also as a group, therefore, we all need to respect some rules which will make it easier to fullfill the objectives of the course.

1: Your place in class is not your most valuable possession. The teacher can ask you to move places, and this is not a punishment.

2: This is an English class, so we must try to communicate in English. We know it is difficult and it is difficult for us too, but we have to take it as a game: it is the most effective way to learn.

3: The class has different timings, there are moments when the teacher has to explain and you all have to listen, and other moments when you have to communicate with the teacher and the other students. It is important to respect these timings and concentrate.

4: There is not leisure time in the middle of a class. There is always something to do: you can help your classmate, you can study verb tenses or you can read a short story. Besides, it is the teacher who decides when the class finishes, not the bell.

5: Speech turn taking is very important. When the teacher asks a student, we expect that student to answer, not another one. If you answer instead of your classmate, you are stealing the opportunity of learning from him or her, so you are not helping at all.

6: It is the teacher who decides when an exam has finished, we collect the exams when we think it is adequate. If you have completed it before, you will be given another task.

7: In the English class you cannot work on another subject or use your cellphone if you are not allowed.

We are sure that you will all understand and fulfill these rules because they are not difficult and they are meant for you to learn; however, if there is someone who decides not to follow them, there will be severe consequences.

EVALUATION

Your term grade is the average of:

1. 2  oral exams : 1 oral presentation (OP) and 1 oral interaction (OI).
2. 2 or 3 writings (W)
3. 2 or listenings (L)
4. 2 or 3 vocabulariy, grammar and reading exams (GVR)
5. 1 reading session (reading with a dictionary) (RS)

A student with a 4 with and a good attitude can pass. But a student with a 4,5 and a bad attitude will not pass.

having a good attitude is: being punctual, respecting classmates and teachers, working in class, participating, helping classmates, raising your hand to speak, doing homework, working on the blog and following the class rules.

METODOLOGY

If students have a good attitude, we can have fun, otherwise the English class can be very boring.

It is very important your work on the English blog, It will be the key to decide if a student passes or not or to raise or lower grades. We will work on it every 15 days and you will complete it at home. It is very important to know how to enter and edit it:

1. Trobareu la unitat 1, amb exercicis interactius que heu de completar, i al final una tasca de redacció relacionada amb el tema de la unitat.
2. Per escriure la redaccíó haureu d’entrar al blog del vostre grup
3. Per  editar el blog heu de clicar “entrar-hi” a la part superior dreta de la página, apareixerà una nova página on us demanen nom i password:

                                     Nom: tallada.english

                                     Password:  tallada1

     4. Un cop entreu haureu de buscar el vostre grup, clicar i tornar a clicar un botó taronja que diu “nueva entrada”. Ara podeu començar a escriure. No oblideu etiquetar amb el vostre primer i segon cognom.

We work on DINA3 and DINA4, you have to number them and every day we will write the date and at least what we have done. The teacher will give you ONE DINA3 for each unit.

Your notes will be controlled and can be collected as a file.

The 4 skills: speaking, listening, writing, listening +vocabulari and grammar: we will write the title for each kind of activity. You don’t have to copy the headings of the exercises, just page and number.
